Growing up I liked certain Christmas carols and hymns much more so than others. But as time has progressed so has my preference in carols and hymns. Now a song that I deemed too slow as a child has become one of my favorites. I cannot figure out why we only sing it at Christmas when it is such a beautiful song that not only depicts Christ's birth but His purpose to end our oppression to this world and power to break the chains. Guessed it, yet?
"O, Holy Night"
In addition to a new found Christmas hymn, I heard a new song the other night at church that illustrates Christ's birth was not over-the-top and extravagant but humble, quiet, and soft. Check out "Winter Snow" by Chris Tomlin featuring Audrey Assad...another beautiful song about Christ's birth.
Merry Christmas, everyone! May your holiday season be full of great memories with family and friends but also joy-filled and a constant reminder not only of His birth but also His resurrection and power to save.

For a child will be born for us,
a son will be given to us,
and the government will be on His shoulders.
He will be named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty G0d,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. The dominion will be vast,
and its prosperity will never end.
He will reign on the throne of David
and over his kingdom,
to establish and sustain it
with justice and righteousness from now on and forever.

The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.
